Easy Day Sports is excited to announce the Thrive Distance Run Series presented by Kaiser Permanente!

Join us and commit to crushing your running goals by running at least once per week over 6 weeks and get ready for the return of live racing!

ABOUT THIS EVENT

The Thrive Distance Series will host three 6-week seasons:

Season 1: February 15 – March 28th

Season 2: April 5th – May 16th

Season 3: May 24th – July 4th

2020 was all about social distancing. It’s time to turn our focus to thriving!

This six-week series is your chance to accomplish your running goals while coming together virtually with the running community!

Commit to running at least 1x each week and choose between two different tracks: one for Fast & Fun Runners (shorter distances) and one for Endurance Runners (longer distances). And for those who choose to sign up as a team, the last week will culminate in a teams competition!

Official Charity Partner: Make-A-Wish San Diego® grants wishes and supports children who are diagnosed with critical illness. Receive a bonus Make-A-Wish face mask when you donate $20 or more at checkout.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Option to donate to our official charity Make-A-Wish San Diego ® through Eventbrite at any time.

*Only runners who post results on time will be listed on the leaderboard

  • There will be no late results- if you miss a week or forget to post, don’t worry, just continue the posting the following week. This will not affect your ability to earn your finisher medal!
  • Tag @EasyDaySports and post your photos!

How do I verify my results?

Review our Leaderboard How to Guide Here.

What is ‘Net’ Time?

A User’s Net time is the time for the race distance after deducting for excess distance completed in order to match the race distance. This is calculated by Average Pace multiplied by the listed Race Distance.

  • Most users will not stop their gps device at exactly same distance as the race distance.
  • Example: Assume the race distance is 3 miles. The runner runs 3.1 miles in a total time of 31 minutes. The runner’s average pace would be 10/min per mile and the “net” 3-mile time would be 30 minutes. This is the time that will be posted on the leaderboard.
  • For a race result time to count, the user must run the at least the distance of the event or farther.
  • In this way, if an athlete chooses to run many miles farther than the race distance, the activity can still be submitted. The 3-mile time will be calculated based on average pace for the entire work-out submitted.

What are some tips for submitting a fast time for my virtual race?

  • If you are new to Strava? Check out the Strava Getting Started Guide
  • If you already have a GPS watch and don’t want to run with your phone view the List of Devices that sync with Strava.
  • Record a test Strava activity and get familiar with the recording and upload process –for iPhone or Android
  • Give your phone (or other GPS devices) time to acquire a solid GPS connection.
  • To ensure you meet the Challenge or Race goal, we recommend you run a small amount over the required distance-(at least 0.05 miles). GPS isn’t perfect so this will help accommodate data inaccuracies.
  • If you warm-up or cool-down after your virtual race, record these as separate work-out activities on Strava. Remember -All time recorded for a Strava activity counts towards calculating your “net” race time.

When will I receive my items?

Season 2 packages will begin shipping the week of March 10th.

If I registered for the Thrive Distance Series Package, am I automatically registered for all 3 seasons?

Yes! You will receive your confirmation for each season prior to that season’s start date.

Will I receive my medal if I miss a week or register late?

Yes! For any paid entry you will receive your items by mail no matter what.

Can I run more than the weekly distance?

Of course, but please only submit your time recorded for the weekly distance (1 upload/week) so that our Leaderboard stays consistent!

I don’t live in the United States. Can I still participate?

Yes, however any international registrations will require the “international shipping” add-on ($20) at check out. If the additional “international shipping” add-on is not included, we will not be able to send your items.

What if I miss one or two weeks / sign up late?

You’re welcome to sign up late to complete upcoming week’s distances! All you need to do is wait until Monday to receive the new week’s distance by email and start running!

Are there prizes for winning or getting the fastest times?

Yes! The top male and female individual finishers for each season (in both the fast & fun category and the endurance category) will be awarded with a complimentary entry in to the 2021 Crown City Classic! Runners must complete all six weeks and upload verified results in order to be eligible. Limited to 1 entry per person.

How do I know how far to go each week?

You will be emailed the weekly distance every Monday at 5am PST. All emails will also be posted to this website.

Can you recommend a route?

The best routes are going to be the ones you know! If you don’t know any, find a bike path or nearby street and run out and back, as that may be easiest. Be aware of local restrictions in public spaces. Join the Easy Day Strava Run Club for local recommendations in San Diego.

We raised over $10,000 for Make-A-Wish San Diego with the Social Distance Run Series!

$10,000 = One Wish

More Wishes are Now Waiting!

On average, Make-A-Wish America grants nearly 16,000 wishes per year, and 77 percent of these wishes involve air travel. Already 1000 wishes have been postponed until we can grant them safely for wish kids. While we continue granting all the wishes we can, we anticipate more of these wishes will have to be delayed at least through the duration of this extraordinary time. Disruptions to these wishes means our work is quickly multiplying. We are already preparing for the day we can continue to grant the wish of every eligible child and get back to the children who have been waiting because of COVID-19.

Wishes Still Need You. Every child deserves a childhood, and we believe our mission gives a piece of it back. These difficult circumstances reinforce that Wishes Need Stars Like You to prepare Make-A-Wish to bring the hope and joy of a wish to every eligible child once normal operations resume. With your help, we can prepare now to make the stars align for wish kids who need it most. Your support will ensure that every child who has waited for a wish since this health crisis hit, receives their wish as soon as possible. Together, we can shine a light of hope and joy to children in their darkest days, bringing them strength for tomorrow.
